Chess – the Game of Kings!! No prior knowledge of chess needed. Learn how the pieces move, how to checkmate (win), several basic openings, and chess etiquette. The class will cover the rules, tactics, strategy, and history of chess to include famous players such as Bobby Fischer. There will be time at the end of each class to refine your chess skill against other students. Towards the end, there will be a simultaneous match against the instructor, and a tournament among the students. But why learn chess? Chess has been shown to improve memory and help protect against dementia. Also, it is a great game to play with grandkids. There is a $3.00 copy fee. Chess sets will be available.
