This course introduces students to the rich and varied ways English words are formed. Together, we will explore how prefixes, roots, and suffixes—known as morphemes—combine to create meaning and shape the vocabulary we use every day. Students will learn the most common morphemes in contemporary English, develop confidence in analyzing word structure, and gain practical skills for understanding, learning, and effectively using new vocabulary. In addition, the course provides an accessible overview of the historical development of English morphemes and vocabulary, offering insight into how the language has evolved over time.
