Big Waves: Dam Failures, Tsunamis, and Storms (How Hazards Become Disasters)

The 2011 Tohoku tsunami. The 1976 Teton Dam failure. Hurricanes and other storms. At the interface of the natural earth and society are where hazards occur and can become disasters. This course provides the geosciences background and training so you will know what these hazards are and how they happen. Then, this course will ask you the question, "how do these natural earth processes become disasters?" Schedule. 1x/week in person except for the last week (August 11-15) where we may meet online or finish the class early. Schedule may change slightly during the semester, but will be communicated early. No required books, materials, or copy fees.
