Contra dance, a descendant of country dance traditions of the British Isles, might remind you of the dancing you see in movies based on Jane Austen novels -- or the hoedowns in westerns. Long lines of couples progress through the dance doing figures you will learn in the course, such as allemande, dosido, circle, star, promenade, and swing. We will learn some country dances from England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, as well as American contra dances. Dancing will exercise our bodies, including our brains.
