Our Classes
Spanish Level 1 (Beginning)

This beginning Spanish class is for those with little or no prior experience in Spanish. The emphasis will be on learning common vocabulary, pronunciation, basic grammar (the present tense) and getting comfortable sharing simple conversations. Please purchase the book Spanish Easy & Fun, copyright 2023, before the first class. This class will cover Level 1, units 1-10. The instructor will be off the week of March 10-14. If a substitute teacher cannot be found, the class will decide on the time and location of a make-up class.
Pickleball for Beginners-Thursday

This class is for true beginners. You will learn the basic rules, how to keep score, how to find places to play, and groups to play with. You will learn to serve legally, maintain a rally, and place the ball where you want it to go. Each class will include a short lecture, drills, and open play. You don’t have to be an athlete to have fun with friends, children, grandchildren, and even strangers you may meet along the way. Paddles and balls provided. Co-teachers are Sam Haag and Sue Fassett. Note: You may register for only one pickleball class each semester to accommodate as many students as possible. Caution: To play this game safely, you must be able to bend your knees to pick up a ball from the ground. You should also have a good sense of balance so you can reach for the balls. If you have any doubts, please check with your healthcare provider.
Creating Greeting Cards withMS Word

Students will receive a comprehensive review of Microsoft Word, learning how to download and edit free photos, clip art, and personal images from your computer or smartphone. The class will focus on inserting these images into greeting cards using Avery’s pre-designed templates for various products (cards, business cards, flyers, etc.). Students will also learn how to personalize their designs with names, messages, and custom photos. Time permitting, additional instructions on creating business cards, flyers, and postcards with Avery cardstock will be covered. No advanced software required—just Microsoft Word. Copy fee: $1.00, payable at the first class. Bring your own laptop.
Issues in Aging

This is a seminar course featuring a different expert speaker each week to assist students with a variety of issues we all face as we enter the third age of our lives. Students must register for the entire series. Topics include (not necessarily in this order) - Medicare: how it works, what’s changed, and what’s next. - Meal planning: cooking low sodium without losing flavor. - Understanding the various forms of grief & loss in our lives. - Exploring lifestyle options: in-home care, independent & assisted living communities, memory care, group homes, and skilled nursing care. - Overwhelmed by the thought of moving: where to start, and what to expect. - What is identity theft, how it happens, how to prevent it, and what if it happens to you. - What you need to know about Hospice and Palliative Care. - Estate Planning: Going Beyond a Last Will and Testament. - How Funeral pre-planning provides guidance and peace. - Alzheimer’s and Dementia 101.
Reformation

Reformation will begin by looking at the earlier reform movements in the Middle Ages & how they inflluenced the Reformation of the 1500's. We will then consider the changes in European life in the late Middle Age & the medieval Church. Then we will consider the major reformers of the sixteenth /century: Matin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin, and King Henry VIII. We will consider their backgrounds and affects on the Reform.
Intermediate Spanish (Level 3)

This course is intended to be a review and extension of grammar and vocabulary learned in the Beginner and Advanced Beginner levels. Students will be able to converse using simple sentences using the present, past and future tenses in Spanish by the end of the course, with an emphasis on conversation. Course materials will include handouts provided by the instructor (cost: $5 per student)
Tech Help Desk seminar - Zoom

Bring your computer and phone questions during these open help desk hours. Challenge us with any questions related to Mac or Windows PCs, Phones (iOS or Android), or tablets (iPad or Android). All questions are welcome. This class will be structured as a hybrid, Zoom enabled class. Where you can either pay No FLI tuition fee and treat it as a drop-in service, or as a regular tech seminar class where we will examine the value of a variety of PC, tablet and phone apps based on the interests of both drop in visitors and registered students. Besides examining their own tech interests, the registered student will help with the research and problem solving to help the drop in visitors.
