Become acquainted with the iPhone and iPad and have fun while you expand your skills in this hands-on class. The class will focus on the basics, but will also cover tips, tricks, and apps which save time and steps and provide new features as time permits. Synergies between the iPhone and iPad will be emphasized. An iPhone running the current iOS 18 operating system or iPad running iPadOS 18 is required. A copy fee of $5.00 is due to the instructor at the first class. Jane Keller will be co-teaching.

Bring your computer questions to open office hours, and I will try to answer them. Bring any questions related to computers, cell phones, or even iPads. Mac or Windows, iOS or Android, no matter how big or small - all questions are welcome. Co-instructor: John Chapleau. This is a drop-in service. No FLI tuition is required.
Photo gifts on your iPad using Shutterfly apps

iPad users can create thoughtful, personalized products using their iPhotos taken with an iPhone! We will use the Shutterfly app to make quick and easy single items to start with and work our way up to 20 page photo books. Let your creativity flow and connect with the joy of sharing special memories with friends and family.
iPad Photo Editing Workshop

This workshop will use an app with a bit of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the iPad to edit class and student photos. We will cover restoring old photographs, as well as removing unwanted people and features, adding images, adding text, changing background, and adjusting the exposure, texture, and color in selected areas of photos. In addition, we will briefly look at apps for creating ink drawings, cartoons, and stickers from photos, creating collages, and using new “Generative” AI for editing photos. An iPad running iPadOS 18 is required. A copy fee of $5.00 is due to the instructor at the first class. Jane Keller will be co-teaching.
Introduction to Computers

This class will explore very basic introductory computer concepts. We will begin with essential terminology and trackpad movements. Then, we discuss fundamental operating system concepts. We continue by exploring common noteworthy Applications. We demystify the cloud and wind our way through the internet. Next, we immerse ourselves in social media and online shopping/banking. Along the way, we touch on security and privacy. This class is designed around the Windows 11 operating system. However, a Windows 10 computer will work as well. Bring a laptop to class, so you follow along with the exercises. A $10 copy fee will be collected on the first day of class.
Creating Greeting Cards withMS Word

Students will receive a comprehensive review of Microsoft Word, learning how to download and edit free photos, clip art, and personal images from your computer or smartphone. The class will focus on inserting these images into greeting cards using Avery’s pre-designed templates for various products (cards, business cards, flyers, etc.). Students will also learn how to personalize their designs with names, messages, and custom photos. Time permitting, additional instructions on creating business cards, flyers, and postcards with Avery cardstock will be covered. No advanced software required—just Microsoft Word. Copy fee: $1.00, payable at the first class. Bring your own laptop.
Tech Help Desk seminar - Zoom

Bring your computer and phone questions during these open help desk hours. Challenge us with any questions related to Mac or Windows PCs, Phones (iOS or Android), or tablets (iPad or Android). All questions are welcome. This class will be structured as a hybrid, Zoom enabled class. Where you can either pay No FLI tuition fee and treat it as a drop-in service, or as a regular tech seminar class where we will examine the value of a variety of PC, tablet and phone apps based on the interests of both drop in visitors and registered students. Besides examining their own tech interests, the registered student will help with the research and problem solving to help the drop in visitors.
