Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. This course will cover all aspects of being prepared (prepping) for any possible calamity. We will discuss bugging in (staying home) or bugging out (leaving home), water and food storage and access, portable toilets, making dirty water drinkable, best prepping food to buy, camping gear, medical supplies, CBRN (Chemical, Nuclear, Biological, Radiation, Nuclear) protective gear, self-protection, and more. Class will be shown how to store food for up to 25 years. Dave will bring to class all the above mentioned items for hands on learning.
Chinese Mahjong - Southfield Village Village

Mahjong is a Chinese game of skill, strategy, and calculation. It is considered a "mind sport" and is fun and interesting to play. The game is played with four players using a collection of tiles divided into five or six suits. You will learn the basics of the official game and strategy tips for playing. Researchers believe that playing the game is beneficial for individuals with the beginning signs of dementia, cognitive, and memory difficulties. So, come challenge your mind with Chinese Mahjong.

The hobby of amateur (or ham) radio is over 100 years old but, this pastime has evolved, not only keeping pace with the times but leading the way. Amateurs combine their radio hobby with many other activities like RVing, model building, travel, astronomy, hiking, camping, weather spotting, and more. This course will teach you what amateur radio has to offer and qualify you for your FCC amateur radio license. You do not have to be a geek or electronics nut to get the most from this course. We use both presentations and live demonstrations to get you started. Cross “Licensed Radio Amateur” off your bucket list. Beginning Bridge

This course will introduce the basic concepts of Contract Bridge: how to evaluate a hand, make a bid, defend, keep score, and play a hand. Bridge is an excellent way to keep your mind sharp. The required text is Audrey Grant's Bridge Basics ($12) and can be purchased through Amazon or Better World Books. Continuing/Advanced Sign Language

Our class is aimed at students who have participated in 5 or more FLI or equivalent sign class semesters. We strive to 'Sign Like a Champion' with weekly receptive & expressive conversational practice. Instructor will share helpful ASL interpreting & grammar links to access online; students build confidence & fluency learning to sign a song/poem or short story. Syllabus detailing class activities & supplementary sign vocabulary worksheets will be shared at the first class. Supplies fee: $7.

A class for students who have had a minimum of 3 FLI semesters of sign training and want to increase sign & fingerspelling accuracy. You will use that new vocabulary to ask/answer questions and have ASL internet links of native signers to view on your own. No pressure--participate as you are able. Reference text: M. Flodin's Signing for Kids (& Adults), $18. $7 supplies fee payable to instructor by second class.
