Beginning & Intermediate Bridge
with Thomas Hebron

This course will introduce the basic concepts of Contract Bridge: how to evaluate a hand, make a bid, defend, keep score, and play a hand. Bridge is an excellent way to keep your mind sharp. The required text is Audrey Grant's Bridge Basics ($12) and can be purchased through Amazon or Better World Books. We are located at 2436 Miracle Lane, Mishawaka IN 46545 in the Town & Country Shopping Center. Co-Instructor is Cappy Gagnon.
Building Spanish Vocabulary
with Carol Stuart, Ph.D.

This class will focus on Spanish vocabulary--not grammar--arranged thematically. It should be helpful for beginners or for those who want to review the vocabulary around certain themes. The themes will be: greetings and introductions; numbers; colors; ordering food at a restaurant; body parts; and one other we will decide as a class. Although designed as an in-person class, it is possible a couple of sessions will be on zoom to accommodate travel plans. There is no book; $2 will be collected at the first class to cover the costs of handouts.
Disc Golf 101

Prepare for takeoff! Fly high with us in a lighthearted and informative disc golf-based series. Whether you're brand new to the game or just curious about what it's all about, this series will walk you through the fundamentals. No experience? No problem! Discs will be provided. Come out, learn something new, and have a few laughs along the way! This program will consist of 4 weeks of instruction and practice; capping off with a showcase on the course for the final week. The series will begin at 10am on Wednesdays beginning July 9th. All sessions will be held at Ferrettie-Baugo Creek County Park.

Bowling Basics

Get ready to roll! This easygoing class is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to brush up on their bowling skills. We'll start each session with a quick, simple lesson on the basics—like grip, stance, and aiming—and then spend the rest of the hour practicing and playing together. It's all about having fun, getting active, and maybe even knocking down a few strikes along the way. No experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm! One time $5 shoe rental paid at first class.
Big Waves: Dam Failures, Tsunamis, and Storms (How Hazards Become Disasters)

The 2011 Tohoku tsunami. The 1976 Teton Dam failure. Hurricanes and other storms. At the interface of the natural earth and society are where hazards occur and can become disasters. This course provides the geosciences background and training so you will know what these hazards are and how they happen. Then, this course will ask you the question, "how do these natural earth processes become disasters?" Schedule. 1x/week in person except for the last week (August 11-15) where we may meet online or finish the class early. Schedule may change slightly during the semester, but will be communicated early. No required books, materials, or copy fees.
The Great Gatsby

The Roaring Twenties: flappers, nightclubs, jazz and cocktails. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” is a bittersweet evocation of this memorable decade, and 1925 marks its 100th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, we will read Fitzgerald’s novel as well as Jillian Cantor’s “Beautiful Little Fools,” a sequel that imagines the lives of three women after the end of Fitzgerald’s story. For the novels, any copy of the books will be fine, and our public library carries them in print, eBook, and audiobook form. The class will meet in person except during the week of July 21, when we will talk on Zoom.
Heidegger and St. Augustine Walk into a Bar

Martin Heidegger, the premiate philosopher of the 20th century, insisted time and again: "I am a theologian." This class will take him at his word, listening to their chat over a German prisoner. We will learn (or not) that Heidegger reworked Christian Tradition, represented by St. Augustine, and made it relevant for our modern ears. We will think together as a class and exercise our thinking apparatus. Required: a cheap copy of St. Augustine's Confessions. A copy fee of $2 paid to the instructor at first class.
