M13 Forever Cardio Drumming
with George Azar, M. Ed.
Cardio drumming is a low-impact, full-body workout set to the great music of the '60s, '70s, and '80s. If you have never tried this form of exercise, you are in for a real treat. Using drumsticks, a 65-75cm stability ball, and a 16–24-gallon bucket (with rope handles), we work at our own pace using our arms, legs, and core! All fitness levels are encouraged, even if you must sit. Please purchase your bucket and ball at Meijer, Walmart, or Lowe's. Drumsticks are available from the instructor for $3.
X11 Forever Open Gym
Beat the summer heat and stay active with our Forever Open Gym! On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday throughout the Summer Semester, the gym will be open from 12:00–2:00 PM for walking, light dancing, stretching, juggling, or simply gathering with friends. Whether you want to keep moving, stay social, or enjoy a cool indoor environment to all FLI participants. Come whenever you like! Registration is used to communicate in the event of a closing.

M14 Dieting: “A Piece of Cake”

No pills. No fad diets. Dave will discuss how he lost 30 lbs so far this year without feeling overly hungry, while maintaining a mostly sedentary, "no treadmill" lifestyle and only eating foods he enjoys — such as spaghetti, pizza, hamburgers, bacon, cereal, and more. Also covered will be easy ways to count calories, how to read food labels to identify ingredients to avoid, the importance of fiber, and how the body uses proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. T15 Just Do What the Song Says

This is a one-time, 50-minute dance party featuring songs that are also dances. Examples: Chubby Checker's "Twist," Freddy and the Dreamers' "Do the Freddy" and Dee Dee Sharp's "Do the Locomotion." Added this time: "The Time Warp," from Rocky Horror Picture Show. This dance party was a big hit in the Winter semester, 2026, and is back by popular demand! This class will meet on Tuesday, July 7 at Southfield Village.

W10 Adapted Tai Chi Fundamentals

With gentle, flowing movement Tai Chi promotes calm mental focus and active relaxation while building strength, stability, and balance. In this beginner/sampler class, we will learn a few basic moves and a mini adapted Tai Chi Fundamentals form that can be done standing or seated. This practice can stand alone as a daily moving meditation. It may also inspire you to explore more Tai Chi. Mary Hagen amd Kevin Cawley co-teaches.
W15 Pickleball for Beginners

Discover pickleball—the fastest growing sport in America! This beginner friendly class introduces you to the essentials: basic rules, how to keep score, where to play, and how to find playing partners. You’ll develop core skills—including serving, sustaining a rally, and placing the ball with purpose—through a mix of brief instruction, fun drills, and open play. No athletic background is required—just a willingness to move, learn, and laugh. Please note: Good balance and the ability to bend your knees are important for safe participation. If you have concerns about your mobility or health, consult your healthcare provider before enrolling.
W16 Pickleball: Dinks and Drills

This class is for those who have completed a beginner class or clinic, who know basic rules, and how to keep score. It will provide an opportunity for additional practice and play in a supportive environment. You will participate in short lectures and drills designed to improve all aspects of your game. Each class will include open play with other class members. Paddles and balls provided. Note: You may register for only one pickleball class each semester to accommodate as many students as possible. Caution: To play this game safely, you must be able to bend your knees to pick up a ball from the ground. You should also have a good sense of balance so you can reach for the balls. If you have any doubts, please check with your healthcare provider.
