In this hands-on course, explore practical AI applications including artwork generation, personalized storybooks, photo restoration, video creation, and AI-assisted writing. Learn how AI can support research, organization, productivity, and lifelong learning. We’ll also introduce emerging technologies such as AI agents and workflow automation. No technical background is required. Bring a laptop or tablet with internet access.

This class is for adults 18 and older who speak little to no English, but who want to learn! The coursebook (Ventures Basic, from Cambridge University) is included in the class fee. Scholarships covering the class fee may be available. If needed, contact the FLI office.

Mahjong is a fascinating Chinese game of skill, strategy, and calculation often described as a “mind sport.” Learn the basics of the official game, tile recognition, scoring, and winning strategies while enjoying friendly competition. Researchers suggest mentally stimulating games may help support cognitive health. Join us to sharpen your thinking skills and discover the enjoyment of Chinese Mahjong.

Explore modern and contemporary plays through reading, discussion, and performance. Participants will examine playwrights, historical context, and dramatic themes while viewing selected performance clips. Students will read plays in advance, assume character roles during class, and share critiques and insights. The course culminates in a readers’ theater presentation, with a possible field trip to a local production. $2 copy fee included in class cost.

Learn the game whose name means “clattering sparrows” due to the sound of the tiles as they’re shuffled. We’ll use the National Mah Jongg League card, with plenty of time to play and build skills. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to confidently join a mah jongg group. Students purchase their own 2026 NMJL card. $5 materials fee.
